How to be Healthier in the Office
For the majority of us, the office is where we spend the vast majority of our time, so it certainly makes a lot of sense to try and ensure that we stay as healthy as we can whilst at work. If you work in an office the chances are that you suffer from some sort of muscle pain in your back and hands because of the way you’re sitting for a prolonged period of time. We also tend to snack a lot more than they normally would do at home, and these things do not add up to a particularly healthy lifestyle. However, there are a few things that you can do in order to improve your health whilst at work, so here are our top tips.
Invest in High-Quality Office Furniture
As mentioned, back pain is one of the main culprits for office workers being in pain, so it is very important to have a comfortable chair which gives your back the right type of support. A lot of modern office furniture is designed to give greater support to your spine, so you should try and make sure it is kept up-to-date.
Take Regular Breaks
Many workers complain of suffering from repetitive strain injuries (RSI) whilst at work. RSI mainly affects people who sit at desks, and it can be incredibly painful, usually affecting the upper body parts such as the elbow, wrist, shoulders and neck. To overcome this, try take short breaks on a regular basis as this will give your muscles a chance to relax and ease the strain on your body. This will help to boost your productivity and concentration levels when you return to your tasks after the short break.
Eat Healthily
When we are at work, we are often caught up in the work we are doing, and we pay very little attention to eating foods which are good of us – instead opting for whatever is quickest and most convenient. This often ends up being junk food, such as crisps, chocolate of fizzy drinks. To be healthier, you should try prepare packed lunches the night before you go to work and take lots of fruit in to snack on, instead of resorting to crisps and chocolate.
Reduce Stress Levels
Stress is one of the biggest threats to your health at work. One way of reducing stress is to ensure that you don’t take on more work than you can handle. If you do start becoming overrun with your workload, you should try speak to your line manager to try and help you out with some of the work. Because after all, your mental health is just as important as your physical health!
